American 727 question

Hi! I have a number of 727 planes (Pan Am, Braniff, Eastern) all of which have black rear engines. However, I have an American 727 that foes not. Is this one of the Japanese re-castings, or was there a period during which Aero Mini produced 727 planes without the black on the rear engines? Thanks very much in advance!

I don’t know of any rhyme or reason for the silver vs black in terms of dates produced. Note, though, that the 727s cast in the US say ”USA” on their bellies instead of ”Japan”. I am almost certain that no US castings were painted up in the American Airlines livery.

It seems like some of the American 727s were produced with silver exhaust sections on the engines and some were painted black. I think all the other airline liveries were black. Not sure why this was done.
