Thought this may be interesting… What was your first Aero Mini model?

My first was a Braniff blue 727, which I purchased in late 2000, a few months after I started buying and selling on eBay, by no coincidence! As a kid, I had the Corgi/Lintoy (also sold by Ertl, briefly) diecast airliners, which I can see now were the poor man’s Aero Minis. :-) I still have most of them. But, when I first discovered what I had been missing for 30 years of my life in Aero Mini models, I quickly set about getting whichever ones I could that I really liked.

My collection now is modest by comparison to some others, but I’ve got most of the common ones now. I’d say my collection now numbers about 20 or more total, including some duplicates, plus about 7 or 8 more in varying conditions for spares or eventual restoration. My favorite by far is the VC10, of which I have five now, I think. One of them is now in BA red tail paint, awaiting decals for the windows. I never was interested in the USAF models or the military aircraft, just the airliners. I also don’t think I’ll be going after the JAL DC-8, which I once saw go on eBay for $1600. Actually, aside from one particilar model, I think I might be finished collecting new AMs.

I also have been making investment-cast brass original copies of some of the parts, including 727 and VC10 horizontal stabilizers, and landing gear for various types. This was to help in my own restoration projects, but if anyone else should need them as well, let me know.

Well.. I started collecting them about two weeks ago, and I already have 13! I guess the first two to arrive in the mail were United 737 and Pan Am 727. My two favorites (so far) just arrived today, All Nippon 727 and Eastern DC-9.
