Piedmont

Hello. This is my first post. I have just purchased by 18th and 19th Aero Minis. I love them and am lucky enough to have a wife who lets me display in the living room! As I looked at the Forum, I noticed there is a Piedmont 737. I have seen none of these in market whatsoever. How do I find. Also, while I am not in the selling mode, I consider the challenge of collecting Aero Minis a blast and would like to know if someone has a list ranking the rarity of original Aero Minis. Thanks. It is great to be a part of this community!

JAL 747 and DC-8, ANA 727 and 737, JASDF F-4 and F-104, Boeing House color 747 and USAF E-4 are considered the most difficult finds. The Japanese carriers because they were primarily only sold ”out the back door of the factory” in Japan (unbeknownst to the owner of the company) and the Boeing House and USAF E-4, because they were after thoughts, produced near the end of the company’s run in the late ’70’s in extremely small quantities.

Forgot to mention the Spirit of ’76 and American chromed 747 which should also be ”10’s” on the rarity list. They fall under the same category as the Boeing House and USAF E-4. The owner was looking for ways to dispose of 747 castings as the company approached it’s demise.

mcsr1993, you should definitely email 65andup for one of those two Piedmonts. He is a good guy and he will make you a square deal! And the plane will be in better shape too…

Hey. We are working on getting an approximate rarity index back up (1-10 scale; 10 is rarest) for each original model. The Piedmont 737s are on EBay every now and again or feel free to drop me a note as I have two… sts1942@gmail.com.

MCSR1983:
I have a list from a hobby source from a number of years ago that lists the availability/rarity of these models. Send an e-mail to nshoffman@att.net and I will forward you the list. Enjoy.

As far as a rarity list, that information used to be posted for the ”original models” from the 70s, but it was removed a while ago. There is a rarity list for the ”new models” posted on that page. From my experience, the rarest original models by airline are Eastern, Japan Air Lines, Air Canada and All Nippon. The rarest models by airframe are the DC-8s.

The gentleman who runs this site, who goes by the handle of ”65andup”, has sold one on eBay recently and also gave one away (to me) in a recent contest. He is probably an excellent lead for finding one for you.
