The TWA 747. It was in terrible shape (still is). Got it for $6 at a flea market. I have a mint TWA 747 now but my very first one acquired in the flea market is still in the center of my collection!

December 1972, Hobby House in downtown Cleveland. I was a senior in high school and had gone down there on a Friday afternoon. This was a classic hobby store with a little for everyone. I walked in and there were either two or three glass showcases displaying a variety of AeroMinis. Don’t recall making it past the cases. I remember spending a considerable amount of time deciding between the United 737 and the TWA DC9. Both of these aircraft served CLE, and United had a hub there at the time and was the dominent carrier. The other reason I was attracted to these two were that they were the least expensive models. The United 737 finally won out at a cost of $3.50. I have maintained a list of every AeroMini I have, when and where purchased and how much. The list indicates the TWA DC9 (my second purchase) came into the fleet about a year later.

My first was the United 737 too. It must have been 1972 or 1973. I remember seeing it in a display case at the Ace hardware in the small Wisconsin town where I grew up (It had wood floors!). My mom bought it for me and we came back a few days later and I must have blown all my allowance on the other one they had… the Northwest Orient 727.

Not very long ago – I started collecting them last December, and I am already up to 21 different models! My first two were United 737 and Pan Am 727.

Back in the 70’s as a kid my grandma and I would fly from Buffalo to Chicago on American, and I saw the 707,727, and 747 in the American magazine. I kept begging for all of them, and I got her to buy me the 707 and 727, which I still have today….then, a month or two ago, I found them in the attic and wondered if I could find the 747….thanks to ebay, all 3 now sit in my office….then I just couldn’t resist buying a 737 ( United ) and DC9 ( Ozark ). I wish to God that they had made the American DC-10 because that was my favorite plane as a kid. I am still considering getting a DC8 to round out the collection. I am wondering if they are all the same scale ( 1:238) I would hope that they would have made them the same scale so that the size comparison would be accurate…comments anyone ?…I am new to the forum and this is my first post…..

Back in the early 70’s, my grandmother and I used to fly from Buffalo to Chicago…I saw the ad in the American magazine and HAD to have them. I talked her into buying me the 707 and 727, but she wouldn’t budge on the 747. I still have the 2 to this day, and just recently bought the 747 on Ebay…..then I got the fever, and since have bought the Ozark DC-9 and the United 737….currently bidding on the Eastern DC-8 / 61 to complete the collection….I just love them all….I sure wish they had put out the American DC-10….that was my favorite plane when I was a kid…

I started collecting them back in 2000, after signing on to eBay. My first was a Braniff Blue 727 but I got it because I was looking for a nice diecast 727, not because I was looking for AMs specifically. When I learned more about Aero Mini models, I wanted to get more of them. The VC10 is my favorite, and I now have five of them (one I stripped and repainted in BA paint). I don’t exactly know how many I have total, but I have most of the common ones, and a couple of uncommon ones, several duplicates, and a few for parts.
